Hatoff’s gas station opens.

1924

Operated by Morris Hatoff, it is located on Washington Street near Forest Hills. After Hatoff is killed in a traffic accident in front of the station in 1965, the station is run by his son Stan Hatoff, who advertises the station with the slogan “Gas is gas.” When the site of the original location is taken by the state through eminent domain in 1974, the station moves to its current location at 3440 Washington Street in 1975. It is scheduled to close in 2026.
